02 • RESEARCH

Why people still
want a ticket stub.

Research combined competitor analysis, secondary research from online articles, and four in-depth interviews. Findings from Nielson (2022) revealed that the post-streaming moviegoer hasn't gone away; they've just gotten more selective about when and with whom.

84%

of participants still preferred streaming at home as their default.

54%

still wanted the in-theater experience for the films that mattered most.

4

interview participants varying in age, race, career, and marital status.

M

Millennials made up the majority; boomers the smallest portion.

Sample Interview Questions

01 - Tell me about your movie-going experience.

02 - How often do you and your family visit the theater?

03 - How do you decide between going to a theater versus streaming?

04 - What times do you usually frequent the theater?

05 - How often do you use mobile apps versus desktop or other devices?

06 - How likely are you to use an app to book your tickets?

A note on context

It is important to acknowledge the effects of the COVID pandemic during the timeframe this research was gathered versus the moment users open the app today. Habits, comfort levels, and price sensitivity have all shifted — and continue to.

the full finished flow

The final high-fidelity prototype presented cleaner user flows for picking a film, confirming the choice with a partner, and paying — with a clear "you are here" at every step.

Made With Human Hands, Robot Brains, and One Too Many Adobe Tabs Open

This project was a group effort — if by "group" you mean one human, a few robots, and an unhealthy amount of Adobe CC. Claude and a handful of other AI tools were consulted for research and wireframing (they had opinions; most were ignored). Figma handled design and layout, because some of us still like to feel in control. Adobe Creative Cloud did the heavy lifting on typography, layout, photo editing, and mockups — as it has, loyally and expensively, for years.
